A Modern Fantasy: The Origins of Candy Corn

The Candy Corn tribes have a myth regarding the origins of their people.

Once upon a time, there was a mountain called Food Pyramid. It was a happy place where all the food people lived in harmony. At each tier of the mountain were different groups. Bread and wheat lived at the base of the mountain while fruits and vegetables lived above them. Meat was on the next level above while candy was at the summit. Although the food groups lived peacefully, it was against their customs for healthy and sugary foods to intermarry.

One day at the summit, a lollypop named Lily had slipped and fell, tumbling all the way down the mountain to find herself at the tier where the fruits and vegetables lived. She met a corn cob named Bob whom she fell in love with and married in secret. The two had a child name Candy Corn.

The family was not to last however. One year later, Lily and Bob were discovered in their forbidden marriage and were arrested. Candy Corn was sent off to an orphanage back at the summit. But Candy Corn soon ran into trouble herself. She became the subject of ridicule and harassment.

It was not long before a jolly rancher pushed Candy Corn off the edge of the summit. She plummeted to her demise, but upon impact to the ground, something remarkable happened. She shattered into a thousand smaller candy corns. They were too small to climb back to the top of the Food Pyramid, so they stayed below the wheat and started their own community.
